Update - March 10th

The Employee Free Choice Act was introduced into Congress today by Representative George Miller (D-CA) and Senator Tom Harkin (D-MA).  This legislation "would amend the National Labor Relations Act to allow unions to use the "card check" process - and bypass the secure, private election format - each time they attempt to organize workers."

January 2009 Updates

GLCC SHRM Chapter Members,

I’d like to take a moment to wish everyone a Happy New Year!  Welcome to 2009 and on behalf of the Board of Directors, I wanted to say that we expect another outstanding year for our Chapter.

We finished 2008 with what we hope will be another Superior Merit award winning year, which means that we accomplished tasks in all the areas that SHRM identifies as being necessary to be considered a well-rounded Chapter.  We plan to keep the momentum going in 2009.  Click here to read more...

November 2008 Updates

Speaking of our Chapter meetings, we have been working very hard on the 2009 Programming calendar.  We have invited everyone from attorneys to motivational humorists to speak on topics of your interest.  We plan to release the calendar in the next month, so keep checking back here for updates.  Suggestions for meeting topics or speakers can be made here.

October 2008 Updates

Even though the Presidential Election is over, we are still getting requests for the "HR Issues and the Presidential Candidates" document.  This was published in one of the free weekly HR Matters E-Tip from PPS.  It addresses McCain's and Obama's position on: Employee Free Choice Act, Fair Pay Act, Family and Medical Leave Act Amendments, Minimum Wage and Workplace Flexibility.  You can view it here.  This continues to be a helpful piece of post-election information.

We have moved the SHRM News Feed  page to the member-only area of the web site.  Chapter members can create a login through our Home Page and view things such as the newsletter (and now the News Feed) there.

September 2008 Updates

We've left some of the below-information regarding the Ohio Healthy Families Act available on the site.  Even though this proposed legislation was not on November's ballot, we have been advised that it may reappear on the Federal level, in the same form, in early 2009.  Please continue to monitor this site for future updates.

Archived Updates

Governor Ted Strickland issued a memo yesterday regarding the Ohio Healthy Familes Act.  You can view it here

The Governor also issued information on the Principles of a Paid Sick Act and Why a Compromise is needed, which you can click on to view.
